Lead Right with the Good Fight
The Good Fight, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was started by UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier and his wife Jolie. While packing up in preparation for a move, the Poirier family realized they had a lot of fight memorabilia from Dustin’s storied UFC career. Rather than box it up for storage, as most would do, they saw an opportunity for good. Together they began auctioning off these items to raise money for causes around their hometown in Louisiana.
Inspired by the out pour of support they decided to auction off Dustin's fight kits after every match including his trunks, shirts and wraps. The first auctioned kit was from UFC 211, Dustin versus Eddie Alvarez. With the money they provided 3,000 meals for their local Second Harvest Food Bank. It was this that inspired the creation of The Good Fight
In 2018 The Good Fight became a registered nonprofit and the Poirier family began auctioning off Dustin’s fight kits after every match to benefit local community initiatives. Other athletes began joining the fight and giving their fight kits to the auction, including Max Holloway who Dustin beat for the interim title.
Fast forward to 2019 and the preeminent brand in fight sports equipment and apparel, Everlast, made The Good Fight their official charity. Together they hope to bring the charity to a global stage and add more athletes to fight under The Good Fight banner.
Since its’ inception The Good Fight has raised thousands of dollars for initiatives including fallen LPD officer Michael Middlebrook, local Acadian Middle School and a playground for disabled children. The Good Fight looks to continue raising money through fight kits and other platforms to bring about good to athletes’ local communities.
